Time to give 'STACEY' the due importance “like MUKESH”
How many of you catch up with latest Bollywood releases in theaters? Probably 30 percent youths does that, or say an average rated movie is seen by approximately 20 million people in the first week. This means almost 30% of the population has sometime or the other, has seen the anti smoking ad in which Mukesh’s is seen telling his cancer problem. And later we get to know that he died at the age of 24 in October, 2009.
I thank government
to bring such inspiring story for anti smoking campaign.
It’s around a
week when India concluded with another season of Indian ‘Paisa’ League
and returned back into the productive season.
No I won’t
discuss match fixing here.
The official
uniform of ‘many’ teams was sponsored by Kingfisher and caps that the members
of the winning team wore, had Royal Stag logo. Apart from that, ads of liquor
can be seen ubiquitous on the ground.
This means,
according to our ‘mercenary’ government, alcohol is good for health.
Stacey Rhymes from Derby, who also died from alcoholic liver disease
at 24 in October, 2009. Now, don’t you think it’s high time when people like Stacey
must be given due importance “like Mukesh”.
Hon’ble
Chief Minister of West Bengal, came up with an fantastic idea to generate
relief fund for the victims of Saradha chit fund case. Ms. Banerjee announced
an additional 10 per cent tax on tobacco and tobacco products to raise money
for the fund.
Why not tax been imposed on alcohol?
Hitherto,
the state which has earned a bad name in terms of illegal alcohol consumption is
still having an 'insouciance' attitude towards this blooming concern.
Let me
mention a partial list to show up the necessity to give Stacey her due
recognition.
1.
Deaths from
alcohol toxicity are more than smoking.
2.
Suicides
involving use of alcohol not smoking.
3.
Divorce
rates are more among alcoholics vs. smokers.
4. It is a heck
of a lot harder to slip a date rape drug into a cigarette vs. someone's
unattended drink
5. Domestic
violence are often fueled by alcohol however such domestic situation fueled by
cigarettes is rarely seen.
6.
The effects
of alcohol are worse because it destroys self-esteem and dignity before killing.
My motive for writing on the topic is not to show the pros or cons
of cigarettes or alcohol, rather to bring up the partial laws of government. The Inept and
venal officers make rules as per their convenience. Else I don’t find any
reason how they can allow such things be endorsed on platforms like IPL where
viewership ranges from youth to old.
Cigarette or
alcohol, both are having scathing effect on society. Banning advertising of
cigarettes has markedly reduced smoking and smoking-related illness. There is
no reason for taking a different approach with alcohol.
But government
will have to be ready to draw a lot of flak from the citizens for adopting a
hard-line stance.
