"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", a review.
“In
a hole in a ground there lived a hobbit” (Sic). Through the glimpses of the
greener Shire, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” begins with those opening
lines. Bilbo Baggins (the yarn weaver played in the first triology of the Lord
of the Rings (LOTR)) is 60 years younger. He has successfully replaced Frodo,
whom we find to have had inherited the qualities of his uncle.
With
the LOTR Triology(2001-2003), Peter Jackson has already proved his mettle. Post
9 years, Mr Jackson has autonomy to play around. The old references and new
faces spring-up in the most naturalistic of fashions.
These
are old days and there was no “eye” hanging between two towers near Mount Doom.
The
story is about how blight fell on the city of Erebor when fire-breathing
dragons, hungry for gold attacked it. This drove the dwarf inhabitants to
exile. This leads to the invitation from Gandalf to a younger and more
reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. He was emotionally conned to join the dwarves
as the team's "burglar". He sets out on an "unexpected
journey" to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to
reclaim their stolen mountain home and wealth from a dragon named Smaug. He is
the chief danger in the movie that guards the dwarf land beneath the Lonely
Mountains.
The
other dangers in the movie are angry rock giants, triple-sized trolls, orcs,
and man eating wolves, resembling The Twilight. We also encounter an awesome
fight between the mountains. 3D adds taste to the experience.
The
first part of expected triology of “The Hobbits” reveals how the ring comes to
the Hobbits from Smeagal.
Overall,
Jackson prefers great, clanging set-pieces over nuances. He is privileged to
have Freeman, an actor who plays Bilbo with a sincere expression of puzzled
honesty and the suggestion of a stout, simple heart. He hobbit-ises the whole
film.
For
me, the Lord of The Rings trilogy was an emotion-filled spectacle; The Hobbit,
by comparison, is all pixels and no pulse.
I
would recommend this movie for anyone over 15 years old. It is action-packed,
laden with danger and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Anyone who is a fan of
the “Lord of the Rings” movies would enjoy this movie very much.
My rating:- 3.5 on 5.
